Ethic and Consent

In all experimental and studies on human or animals, authors must state whether formal approval from an Institutional Review Board or Ethics Committee was obtained. In the absence of such committee, the Declaration of Helsinki guidelines must be followed and be clearly stated in the Methods section of the manuscript.

When reporting experiments on human subjects, BioMed Research mandatorily needs a declaration stating whether the procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards as laid by the ICMR-Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research on Human Participants (Available at: http://icmr.nic.in/ethical_guidelines.pdf)/ its equivalent (example Helsinki Declaration, 2000) were followed or not. For Studies related to Stem Cell research therapy it should be in accordance with ICMR Guidelines for Stem Cell Research and Therapy (Available at: http://icmr.nic.in/stem_cell/stem_cell_guidelines.pdf). When reporting experiments on Animals CPCSEA Available at: http://icmr.nic.in/bioethics/final_cpcsea.pdf or http://envfor.nic.in/divisions/awd/cpcsea_laboratory.pdf or its equivalent is to be followed.

a) Invite the authors to revise their manuscript to address specific concerns before a final decision is reached.

b) Reject, but indicate to the authors that further work might justify a resubmission.

c) Reject outright, typically on grounds of specialist interest, lack of novelty, insufficient conceptual advance or major technical and/or interpretational problems.

We check with potential reviewers before sending them manuscripts to review. Reviewers should bear in mind that these messages contain confidential information, which should be treated as such.
